Feet on the ground, eyes on the sky.
There was never any questioning that I would find myself in a colorful and creative field of work. My mother kept laundry detergent with her everywhere we went because she never knew what (or who) I would draw on, stain, or maim with my tiny little hands.
I played with ideas for my career, tried my hands at every creative outlet I had access to, and nothing would stick; Graphic arts, traditional arts, game design, web design, tattoo design, interior design... It didn’t feel right. I graduated high school in 2010, almost ten years ago, and I was lost. What am I going to do with my life?
And then I’m watching a fantasy series and swooning over braids, makeup, and lighting. I’m pausing the show every 5 or 6 minutes to get a closer look at a dress and how the hair accentuates the face and I realized right then what I wanted to do. I researched for weeks after that, asked myself the big questions and dreamed about working on a set.
Now, I have been enrolled at Paul Mitchell the School Roanoke since Feb. 2019 and am expected to graduate March 2020.
This is just the beginning of my journey.
