I couldn’t really tell you exactly what made me go to cosmetology school. I’ve always played with hair, braiding my stuffed animals and giving my barbie’s haircuts, but when I signed up for technical school it was with the intention of starting the vet tech program. For some reason I wrote down cosmetology as my first choice instead, and I haven’t looked back since.
After a decade in the industry I have found what makes me, me, is the experience I offer my clients. High quality service (technical skills) is of course high on my list, but what I value the most is how I make my clients feel. I love to listen. As a natural born introvert I’ve always loved to be the quiet one in the room who hears everything and notices the small details about everyone. I pride myself in giving my clients, who are often hard working professionals in management positions, or moms (same job title really), a place to relax, unwind, and not have to be “on.” I strive to make sure my clients feel not only beautiful on the outside, but also recharge emotionally.
When it comes to hair itself, creating custom blondes make my heart sing! I love creating a look that is maintainable on each of my clients, whether it be bright blondes, soft golden tones, or just a touch of balayage to spice up a brunette. I think the most successful colors happen when we live in the hair’s natural realm, and seek only to enhance the beauty that already exists. Both men’s and women’s short hair cuts I find so inspiring because of the many possible variations. Of the many short haired clients I am lucky to have, no two of them have the same cut, and we frequently make changes to each and every one of them.
