This year, I graduated college with a degree in Political Science, got married to my college sweetheart, relocated to Columbus, and returned to beauty school at the Spa School, a subsidiary of the Ohio State School of Cosmetology, with a specialty in Hair Design. I took the time to learn how to braid, and received an additional certificate outside of school. Right now, I am looking forward to expanding my skills with a handtied hair extensions certification after my completion of school in the spring.
While the jump from political science to the beauty industry might seem extreme, it came completely natural to me. I went to beauty school for the first time straight out of high school. However, that was the year that the pandemic hit, and with my school closing down, I needed to reevaluate my plan. Attending university exposed me to things that I think were necessary to develop me as a person, however I felt called to return to beauty school and complete my licensing so I could employ my skills that I had been doing for fun throughout my whole high school and college experience. I know that I am not the typical student or stylist, and I know that that is what can make me valuable to other professionals and to my clients.

This industry is no longer only about skill and results, but equally about marketability. By starting now and creating a student canvas, I believe I have the ability to further my connections with other beauty professionals and receive educational information that I cannot receive in school alone. Practicing now my marketing skills will help me that much more when I am trying to get clientele into my chair! Additionally, being able to see my personal development overtime is going to motivate me to continue to post and connect.
