     You may have noticed that I have a degree in education. You may have also noticed that a career in education is not what I'm pursuing! When I decided to attend college and had to declare a major I looked back on my life. I loved school and learning. I admired my teachers; inspired by their compassion and dedication. I used to "play" school; setting up a mini classroom with my toys. I made pretend quizzes and took attendance in a notebook. It, seemingly, just made sense that I would be a teacher. 

     Yet, as I pursued that path, something felt off. I loved being with the children and building genuine relationships with them. However, I knew something wasn't quite right and this led to some serious reflection. As I reflected on my life, I realized something. Yes, I loved to "play" classroom. Yes, I enjoyed learning and was always the student at the front asking a thousand questions. Yes, I adored children and being witness to their progress. However, I had neglected to pay attention to the other aspects of my life that had brought me tremendous joy. 

     I realized that while I loved school, I loved esthetics more. As a child, I concocted lotions and potions with whatever I could find in the bathroom closet. I would beg my family members to allow me to give them "facials." As a teenager, I plucked my friends eyebrows and was the first one to be asked to makeup for different events. I realized that I needed to give myself grace and allow myself to make a change in my life. 

     In the following days, I researched different esthetician programs and requested more information about them. Flash forward to the present and I am an esthetican student at Summit Salon Academy! Since being enrolled, I have learned that I am particulary passionate about hair removal, makeup, and medical aesthetics. I could not be more pleased with my decision to pursue my real passion! I am in the beauty industry because I want to build relationships. I am in the beauty industry because I want people to feel confident in their own skin and realize that they are worthy of a little pampering now and then!
