Alright, let me tell you about myself and how I operate. I'm Chaz Coffman, and I'm based right here in Jackson, Tennessee. For me, hair isn't just a job; it's an art form, and for the past 18 years, I've been immersed in the beauty industry. Currently, I'm a full-time traveling gay hairstylist, operating as "The Gay Hairstylist" through my website, gayhairstylist.com. This allows me to bring my unique approach to clients throughout West Tennessee and surrounding areas.
My journey in hair started after earning my Cosmetologist Certification from Arnold's Beauty School in Milan, TN. But even before that, I was laying a diverse foundation. I hold an Associate's Degree from Jackson State Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Recording Industry and Music Business from Middle Tennessee State University. My thirst for knowledge keeps me constantly learning, which is why I even completed the "Intro to Cybersecurity CS50" program from Harvard University.
For over 15 years, I owned and managed Chaz and Company Salon right here in Jackson. My approach there, and still today, is different from most. When you come to me for a haircut, you essentially hand over the reins and trust my artistic vision. I start with an in-depth, one-on-one consultation. We discuss your "likes" in life, I examine your personality and style, and consider how much time you dedicate to your hair daily and how far you're willing to go to achieve the look I envision for you. My decisions on color and style are based on a multitude of factors: intuition, current fashion, your face shape, skin tone, lifestyle, social life, professional settings, budget, hair texture, thickness, the tools you use, and, of course, the overall health of your hair.
After this consultation, I put my creative artistry to work, giving each and every person a unique style that truly complements them. While I always listen to your requests and needs, working together to find the perfect solution, my process involves "coloring the cut." I first envision the final style and then choose the coloring techniques that will best highlight its best features and subtly address any less desirable aspects. I never refer to myself as just a hairstylist; I am an artist. It's an experience I strive to make incredibly creative and style-driven, one that goes beyond the typical salon visit.
Beyond the world of hair, my passions and endeavors are quite varied. I'm a singer/songwriter and have been sharing my music for over a decade, including on my YouTube channel. I also play various instruments, including piano, fiddle, and drums, and sometimes even serenade my clients! In the literary realm, I've recently published two books, "Living Injustice" and "How To Get Your Way By Bitching!," both released in January 2024 and available on platforms like iTunes, Amazon, and Kindle.
My drive to make a positive impact extends into the political sphere. I have political ambitions that include a run for Congress, and I'm deeply involved in fighting oppression and advocating for social change as part of The Movement of America. I've even dedicated thought to designing and reforming government entitlement programs and writing new bills aimed at addressing failing policies while promoting moral values and sustainability. I've built an online presence to support these aspirations and excel in marketing and social media management, utilizing tools like Google Analytics to establish effective websites.
My entrepreneurial spirit shines through in various ways. I've ventured into manufacturing, branding, and marketing my own line of hair products. I also have hands-on skills in general carpentry and basic residential electrical wiring. Interestingly, in July 2022, I invented the first EcoPower generating shoes!
My career has also included significant roles such as General Manager and Stylist at Spa Vita of Jackson, where I led a transformative overhaul, increasing revenue and implementing key operational improvements. Currently, at Supercuts in Jackson, I've quickly become a top performer, responsible for a significant majority of the store's color sales. Earlier in my career, I also worked as a Producer and Stage Hand with Ghostite Productions, orchestrating large-scale events for thousands of attendees and collaborating with renowned artists.
I'm a self-marketing specialist with a strong online presence, highlighted by my portfolio at https://linktr.ee/chazcoffman. I'm comfortable with public speaking and communication, honed through years of retail merchandising and customer service experience. I'm also proficient in various digital tools, including Google Analytics, Facebook Business Manager, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, Spotify, and Pandora.
As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I embrace my identity as "The Gay Hairstylist," promoting inclusivity and empowerment. I'm a fast learner, a hard worker, and I'm always willing to relocate for the right opportunity.
