Being a textured hair specialist has been something I've thought of since I started learning more in depth about my own curly hair. I was in high school when I really started to pay attention to the quality of my hair products and learn styling techniques. When social media became bigger and influencers started having a bigger presence, I noticed people comparing their beauty and physical features to others - so much to where people wouldn't feel validated unless they got more and more likes with each post.
I started to follow the textured hair community on social media, and I constantly see others putting themselves down because they're trying to attain a feature that isn't theirs. I try to tell people to enhance their biological beauty so that they can feel good and confident in their own skin rather than doing what other people do to make them feel beautiful. I think textured hair is the hardest for people to embrace because it's still not widely accepted in many areas. Only recently have many cities and states banned discrimination towards textured hairstyles in schools and workplaces.
From being in the advertising profession, I've learned that there are so many companies taking advantage of the growth in the natural hair industry and they're creating products that aren't properly made or marketed to the right people which in turn is causing more harm than good. Textured hair is so fragile that if you aren't using the right products and taking proper care of it, you will damage it - I've been there, more than once. The fact that these companies are preying on the insecurities of others just to make a dollar is a huge problem in the industry that I want to help tackle.
My goal as a textured hair specialist would be to educate my clients on their curls, because everyone's curls are so vastly different, and to help them apply that education to grow their confidence. I truly believe that you can't be fully happy in life if you aren't happy with what you see in the mirror and how you feel about yourself as a person first, inside and out, and I want to help people achieve that.

My goals currently are to gain experience outside of school to further my education and improve my craft.
