My name is Emily Beach, but in the industry I'm known as 'Bleached By Beach'. I'm from Upstate New York and moved to Tampa five years who to attend the University of Tampa. In 2019 I got a job at a local hair salon as a guest coordinator. Fast forward to the middle of my senior year, I wondered if cosmetology was something I should look into more. I applied to the Aveda institute and locked in a start date for June. In May of 2021 I received my Bachelor of arts in communications along with my minor in public relations. Through this journey, my love for this industry has grown more than I ever dreamed it could and I know I'm right where I'm supposed to be.
I have been surrounded by this Industry ever since I could imagine. My favorite thing in the world was going to get my hair done with my mom when I was a kid. She never boxed me in and let me to do whatever I wanted to my hair. I was told by my teachers in elementary school that being a hairstylist was not a career option for me. "Why not a doctor or lawyer?" I put on the blinders and got amazing grades in order to get into the best colleges. I did everything I was supposed to do, but in the middle of my senior year of college I knew something was missing. I loved my job more than anything I learned in school. I looked into cosmetology schools and next thing I knew I had a deposit, start date, and finally that 'missing piece' didn't feel missing anymore. I'm now halfway through my cosmetology school experience and am here to say this was my missing piece. This is where I'm meant to be and why I never was happy with the "traditional" route my elementary school teachers put me on.
