Stop whispering, start shouting.

Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 24 year old esthetics student at Summit Salon Academy in Tacoma, WA. I graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2021 with my BA in music, but consider myself a lifelong learner and am excited to be back in school pursuing my passion for skincare. Outside of the treatment room, you can find me at the gym, hanging out with my dog, or writing music.
I started getting acne when I was 9 and have always been insecure about my skin. Since my acne appeared much earlier than it did for most of my peers, I was picked on for it and have always been hyper-aware of the fact that my skin doesn't look "normal." From early 2021 through the second half of 2022, I experienced painful Grade 3 acne and had multiple open lesions on my face at any given point. I did not want to go on Accutane, so I decided to visit an esthetician. I've always been interested in cosmetology, but skincare seemed too elusive to me, and I had never gotten a facial before. I was skeptical, but desperate. The change in my skin ended up being profound, and after 2 months I noticed a 50% reduction (at bare minimum) in my acne. At the time, I'd just quit my job and was struggling to find purpose in life. The more I got to know my esthetician and the bigger the difference I could see in my skin, the more I became interested in pursuing a career as an esti. I've always been interested in healthcare and medicine and took a lot of health science classes in high school before deciding I'd rather study singing. The esthetics world felt like the perfect outlet to re-pursue my passions for science and helping others, while still feeling creative and artistic. My esti (who graduated from SSA Tacoma) encouraged me to take a tour of the school, and now I'm here!
