Haliegh Carnes

Hello! My name is Haliegh and I am currently attending School at Aveda Institute in West Des Moines, IA. This path I have taken has sincerely changed my life. As long as I can remember I have struggled with self love and confidence. Through out high school and in my early adult life, my weight has played a huge role in my self esteem. It prevented me from chasing dreams, holding me back from relationships that could have been great, and countless opportunities that I never felt confident enough to pursue. In January of this year something clicked within me! I decided to do something for myself and my happiness. I decided to go to cosmetology school. From the beginning I knew there was no where else I'd rather get my education, than from Aveda. I stand behind their mission, it is close to my heart and I love the education. I have never felt so proud of my self as I do now. I am happy because of me and my hard work, it doesn't revolve around someone else, I'm only relying on myself to make my dreams come true and its amazing!  Since joining Aveda I have learned so much about myself, my talent and work ethic. I love the relationships built and the way helping others makes me feel. I worked hard and percerviered as a new student to land myself a spot on the 3-person Edwin Neill Full Potential team to represent Aveda Des Moines at Aveda Congress, amongst other Instutes all over the world! I was chosen as a finalist and recieved the 2020 Horst Live The Mission Scholorship, for my dedication and love of living out Aveda's Mission beyond school. Cosmetology has lifted my spirit, gave me my path and showed me my purpose. I couldn't be happier! Always remember that it is never too late to follow a dream!
