Treat people the way you want to be treated

Hi there! My name is Ilyssa and I am curently attending Douglas J Aveda in Ann Arbor, MI. I started working in the beauty industry in 2022 as a receptionist and have been learning from my coworkers since then. I have loved being able to see everyone work their magic and seeing their little tips and tricks. I can't wait to be able to work as a stylist and to make people feel the best versions of themselves everyday.

I grew up with the mindset that there is function and there is fashion. Meaning there are things that help make the world work and there are things that make the world beautiful. And of course there should be a balance of the two. Yes, everything around us needs to be functional, but at what point do we need to stop and smell the flowers? Or better yet, what if we were that flower? It can be difficult in today's world to feel beautiful with so many unrealistic standards. But sometimes the smallest things can help, like hearing a compliment on your outfit that you finally had the courage to wear or putting on a little makeup for the first time in a while and feeling pretty, even if it's just for a small second. In our fast paced world that we have created, people deserve to feel pretty when they are working their 9 to 5 jobs, when they’re fighting for their client in court, or even running their business that was started from nothing. I want to be the person that makes someone feel beautiful in their everyday life so that way, they don’t necessarily have to stop and smell the flowers, because I got to help make them feel like a flower both inside and out.
As manager, the stylists come to me when they need help with something in the salon. I help with any disputs and I run the front desk by checking clients in and out, scheduling their next appointme...
