About me
Hello! My name is Jake Sturm. I am a passionate and dynamic hair stylist, makeup artist, and salon owner, with a deep love for beauty and education. As a licensed cosmetologist and barber, I bring a unique blend of creativity, compassion, and dedication to every client I work with. My focus is on inclusion and truly supporting my guests, making sure they feel beautiful both inside and out.
My journey into the world of beauty started in a meaningful way—cutting hair at a residential treatment facility for students who had been abused or neglected. I taught myself through online tutorials and sought guidance from my personal hairstylist, which allowed me to discover my passion for making others feel seen and valued.
Today, I work behind the chair, transforming my clients with hair and makeup, and I’ve been fortunate to work on exciting projects, like designing hair and makeup for a Las Vegas fashion show. My career kicked off with a significant achievement, making Paul Mitchell’s Dean’s List for cosmetology, and I maintained perfect attendance throughout the 1600-hour program. I was also honored to win the Beacon elite program, hosted by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA), which fueled my drive for excellence in the industry.
As a texture specialist, I’m your go-to for anything related to texture. I’m certified in Curl Cult Method, Brazilian Blowout, Laced Hair Extensions, and more. My goal is to help my guests achieve their hair dreams while maintaining the integrity and health of their hair. It’s not about me cutting hair how I want—it’s about meeting your needs and making sure you feel confident and happy with your look.
Outside the salon, I’m an outdoor enthusiast who loves hiking, camping, and scuba diving. I also have a passion for baking and cooking, and I owned and operated a restaurant for six years.
Both professionally and personally, I live by the philosophy that “Beauty is inside and out. As artists, we can enhance both.” This belief drives everything I do, from styling behind the chair to continuously learning and teaching. I’m here to support my clients and help them leave feeling truly uplifted.

Why I'm here
I am a licensed salon owner, cosmetologist and barber, plus an educator for the Curl Cult Texture System, specializing in their innovative perming system and texture cutting method. But beyond that, I am, and always will be, a forever student. The beauty industry is ever-evolving, and I believe in constantly learning, growing, and sharing knowledge with others.
My journey into education began long before my career in cosmetology. I was one semester away from completing my bachelor’s degree in Special and Elementary Education when a major life event reshaped my path. I realized I didn’t want to fit into the mold of a traditional school teacher—I wanted to create my own mold, to be Jake. That’s when I pivoted to cosmetology school, embracing the creative and personal connections that come with this industry, and I’ve never looked back.
Teaching has always been part of who I am. My first job was as a swim instructor, a role I loved so much that I did it for eight years. Even after moving out of state to open an Italian restaurant, I still traveled back once a week to coach my students, helping them meet personal goals and make the swim team. It was during that time that I truly understood the power of being a part of someone’s success. That feeling of witnessing others grow and achieve is something I carry into my work every day. #Compersion—my new life motto—means finding joy in others’ success, and it’s a driving force behind my passion for education.
One of my favorite things about this industry is learning—whether it’s new techniques, products, or ingredients—and then breaking that information down in a way that makes it engaging, memorable, and accessible. Not everyone learns the same way, and I appreciate the opportunity to personalize the way I teach. I love answering why questions: Why does this technique work? Why is this product effective? Why should we care about hair health? Keeping people engaged and excited about learning takes patience, practice, and a genuine passion for what you do.
I believe the best educators are those who have personally experienced the impact of what they teach. Whether it’s texture services, hair health, or industry knowledge, my goal is always to connect, share, and help others grow. When you truly believe in something, teaching it becomes second nature.
