About me

As a small child, I spent most of my time in my bedroom, playing with my Barbies. I’d have them all lined up, "waiting" for me to style their hair for the “runway”, which I imagined and brought to life. Nothing beat the feeling of making my dolls even more beautiful than how they came packaged! I remember being asked what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I responded without hesitation, "I want to be a hairstylist!” The idea wasn’t far-fetched, as I always had my hands in someone’s hair. My proud proclamation wasn’t strange, it wasn’t unusual, nor did it seem out of reach—it was every bit of normal. That's what made my world go around then, and now I get to live my dreams out loud.

Hello! I am Janell Duport—a highly motivated, team-oriented cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor! I am a Christ-follower and a Queens, New York native. Here is where the passion for cosmetology and education meet. I have an immense love for education and passing the wealth of knowledge to each student I have the pleasure of teaching, as well as the guests I get to serve.

I obtained my cosmetology education from Paul Mitchell the School Charlotte (Charlotte, NC) in 2017 and tested and applied for licensure that same year. Five years later, I tested for my Cosmetology Teacher’s license and began working at the very school I received my education from. I am very proud to serve in a place that once served me as a student! What excites me most is being a witness to our students’ learning experiences and encouraging them along the way.

I aspire to do many things in my lifetime, including achieving my lifelong goal of becoming an onset hairstylist for movie, television, and theater productions, magazine shoots, and marketing campaigns. Whether the mood board calls for period hair, an avant-garde look, something modern and clean, or an everyday ponytail, I desire to be a part of it. We never know where life can lead us, so if you’re reading this, maybe we’ll cross paths one day. Connect with me to learn more about how I can contribute to your cosmetology program, beauty project, or business. I look forward to working with you!
