Hello everyone! My name is Jayda Monique Gann and I am 21 years old. Growing up in a small Oklahoma town will inspire just almost any creative to want to really get out into the big world to further explore. My interest in hair started when I was really young so I always knew i had a niche for it, but I wasn’t sure just how far i could go. Makeup has also been another fun hobby of mine for a long time. When I first moved away from my hometown to Oklahoma City, I began at a tradition 4 year university studying Biology. This is also when I first began my own curly hair journey. My hair was very damaged and hardly had any curly left to it, but I was determined to figure out how to correctly take care of my hair type. Being at a college where there was so much diversity was the most incredible feeling— I had never seen so many naturally curly girls just ROCKING their fros. Eventually I started to get asked questions like “how do you get your curls to do that” or “dang girl, you got good hair.” Very quickly I began to realize that I was not the only one who never knew how to correctly care for their curls. Many black women have faced the exact same challenges of relaxing too young, not using heat protectant, not knowing what products to use. After about two years at the university I began to become unsure about if what I was on the path to do was going to bring me a lifetime of joy. Since I was unsure, I decided to pursue the one thing that I have always known was for me. Although I wanted to become educated in every which direction, I also wanted to make it my mission to become the stylist that many curly girls have been searching for. There were too many times my mother would take me into a salon and the stylist would be so overwhelmed because they did not know about my hair. There is no such thing as “good” hair. There is healthy hair, there is unhealthy hair, there is straight hair, there is curly hair, and I am here to do it all!
