After 18 years various customer service rolls, I chose to go back to school to learn to do something I had always enjoyed playing at and turn it into my full time career… hair. Trying to go back to school in my mid-30’s was not easy, but I was dead set on making it work and teaching my children at the same time that career change is possible. After applying to not just one, but three area cosmetology schools I finally got a call from one, Clary Sage College. I struggled a little at first, being the only person over 30 in a room full of 20-somethings (and this included most of my instructors) was a little intimidating it went on like that for nearly a year, and then I switched to night classes. The pace was a little slower but the students were closer to my own age, so I found my groove without feeling like I was competing with someone nearly half my age. I am proud to say that I survived the program and that I am currently a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Oklahoma. I did manage to continue my education after cosmetology school and have an Associates of Occupational Science in Business and Industry Management (that means I have an Associates degree in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship.) Bringing me to where I am now trying to grow in my business. I am currently looking to change salons and would like somewhere with lots of walk-ins.
