About me
My name is Justin Hanshaw. I am 31 years old pursuing my career to become a barber. I am currentry enrolled in the barber program at Paul Mitchell the school in Norman, Oklahoma. I grew up in small town Oklahoma and I knew that I did not want to become complacent in my hometown... so I moved to a larger city when I was 17 years old. I have always struggled trying to figure out "what I wanted to be when I grew up." I have always found fulfillment in helping others so I have worked with senior citizens for over 10 years total in various positions at Assisted Living and Memory Care Communities , the longest being a Life Enrichment Director for 6 years and also worked with special needs children as a Direct Care Specialist for 3 year in between working with seniors. During my time working with seniors I coordinated in house events as well as community events benefiting Meals on Wheels of Norman, Parkinson Foundation, Toys for Tots, The Alzheimer's Association and volunteered for the Red Cross for tornado relief assistance and recently volunteered for Probject 66 giving free haircuts to underprivileged kids. When the pandemic first hit, the beautician wasn't able to return to the Assisted Living Community I worked at so I jumped in and took over the best I could and would wash and style the residents hair daily. This is when I knew this is the path I wanted to take so I researched hair schools and fell in love with Paul Mitchell the school. So, here we are!

Why I'm here
I’m here because I would love to find an establishment that I look forward to going to each day and making people feel beautiful inside and out. I NEVER want to turn a single human being away because of their race, gender, sexuality, identity, etc… I want to serve each and every human being that is willing to sit in my chair. I never want to turn someone away because I was too fearful or uneducated to learn or to try. I want to say “yes, I can do that” to each client if I can. I want to learn as much as I can. The beauty industry is only growing. It’s never dull. It’s not dying. It’s not going away. Self education is extremely important in this industry; with furthering my education and keeping up with trends as much as possible. I would like to one day open my own barbershop serving the community while loving what I do. I have a great personality and this career path allows me to express that while not being stuck behind a desk 9-5. Career freedom is why I’m here. A huge dream of mine would also to be able to work in the film and television industry. I have had the privilege of being a background extra in a handful of films here in Oklahoma and I love being on set. I also had the opportunity to work about 400 plus hours on set of a few films as one of the head hair stylist for the film. So, to be able to travel around , do hair on set of movies, tv shows, commercials, photo shoots would be awesome and to be able to see my art on the big screen would be amazing! I’m extremely interested in finding an apprenticeship or to assist on a live set or in a barbershop/salon to further my hands on education while attending school or even after I graduate so if you’re interested or have a spot available I’d love to be considered!
