Kalee Smith

As you may know I started as a student at Elite Academy of Hair Design November 1st 2022. This site is to show my work through my experience in school.

Who I am:
I am 19 years old and graduated from The Linsly School in 2022. I have always loved doing hair since I was a little girl and it formed into a passion.

How I got started:
When I was little my mom got me a Barbie doll and taught me how to braid. From there I got an American girl doll and started watching youtube videos on different styles, finally when I turned 14 I had gotten my first mannequin head and never stopped styling. My eighth grade year my cousin asked me to do her hair for prom and I agreed. I was so excited and young I could not wait to do her hair. When I got into high school my friends quickly learned that I could braid. I had this one friend who asked me to braid her hair almost every day, not to mention I was the one known to be braiding hair before volleyball games. I loved doing her hair so much I asked her if I could do an updo for a school project and she agreed. Through high school many people asked me if I would do their hair for different events and I always agreed.

How I decided to go to cosmetology school:
Like I said before I have always loved doing hair but never really considered making a career out of it until the last two months of high school.Teachers and guidance counselors had wanted us to be applying to schools way before this and I had no desire to go to a traditional college or university so I started to look at other options and if there was anything I could do that involved hair and that's when I found Elite. I guess I always knew I wanted to become a stylist but since that wasn't the traditional route of school I had to find it on my own.

 
Other facts:
I have been in 4H the past 11 years and it is one of the best organizations I have been a part of. I played volleyball all through high school as well as track my junior year. I live on a beef farm with my parents and plan to take over our third generation farm later in life.
