I’m Karina, a cosmetology student at Aveda Institute Des Moines with a deep passion for hair, creativity, and building a long-term career in the beauty industry. I am a versatile hair stylists which includeds braiding, wig install, sew ins, haircutting, and hair coloring. I bring a calm, intentional approach to my work and focus on providing a high-quality, thoughtful experience for every guest.
My journey with hair began at a young age by watching my cousin style hair for clients, including my sisters and me. In fifth grade, when my mother cut her hair, I began braiding as a way to practice and express creativity. This quickly grew into doing hair on myself, my sisters, and my mother, and became the foundation of my passion.
During high school, I began teaching myself how to install and customize lace fronts on my own hair, which is where I developed my knowledge and skills with frontals. This experience strengthened my attention to detail, patience, and understanding of precision-based styling techniques. What started as self-taught experimentation evolved into a deeper commitment to mastering my craft.
About a year ago, I decided to pursue hair more intentionally while studying Business Administration at DMACC Community College. Combining my business education with cosmetology training has shaped my goal of building a strong, sustainable hair business rooted in professionalism and creativity.
Through my cosmetology education, I have developed solid technical skills in cutting and color, with a particular interest in updos and texture braiding. I am motivated by growth, challenge, and continuous learning, and I value consistency, professionalism, and ongoing improvement.
In addition to school, I work at a hospital and at Lowe’s—experiences that have strengthened my work ethic, adaptability, and ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. Outside of hair, I enjoy playing piano, skating, and spending time with family and friends, which keeps me grounded and creatively inspired.
