Kate Valentine

My name's Kate Valentine, based out of Tacoma, WA. I'm happy you're here! I'm currently a level 2 stylist at Union Salon. 

My interest in the beauty industry started at age 12 when my Mom dyed my hair for the very first time & gave me at home highlights. Needless to say, they weren't great but I was intrigued at how you can have so much control to do what you want with your hair. 

My first job, that I was loyal to for almost 10 years, was Hot Topic. Not only was I able to freely express myself everyday at work (HUGE perk) with my hair and makeup, I was able to break out of my shy shell & create relationships with some of the customers. I wasn't always able to openly talk to people but that customer service position and my mentors along the way truly helped me gain that confidence.

After outgrowing Hot Topic, I had no clue what I truly wanted to be when I grew up (I was 25). I moved into a client relations position for a Monday thru Friday 9am-5pm construction company & soon realized there wasn't much space for inclusivity & diversity, which is very important to me. 

After being with them a for a while, I stumbled across a job posting for a Front Desk Receptionist at a Green Circle salon in my area. Though I had spent time in a lot of salons, I really wanted to work in one to see what day to day was like for a salon and the stylists. I saw how inclusive a salon could be, how much fun you can have and most importantly how fulfilling a career in the beauty industry could be. 

So, in the summer of 2022 just before my 30th birthday I decided it was time to do what I had always wanted to do straight out of High School but was too scared to.

I pride myself on being able to reinvented myself, start over, adapt and all the while learning a lot along the way on this journey we call life.
