"Kathy is a seasoned professional in Cosmetology Education, with extensive experience in Admissions, Recruitment, Student Services, Teaching, and Directorship. Currently serving as the Student Relations Coordinator, her role focuses on effective recruitment, marketing, assisting students with job placement, and facilitating state exam registrations.
Kathy’s passion for Cosmetology Education dates back to her time at Barbizon Beauty College, where she earned her cosmetology and educator certifications. She specializes in Cosmetology, Nails, Esthetics, and Instructor Training and holds an NC Teacher’s Certificate from Appalachian State University. Additionally, Kathy has earned numerous certificates in various fields of Cosmetology Education.
With over 40 years in the Cosmetology industry, Kathy has gained in-depth experience in every aspect of the profession, with a particular focus on education. Outside of work, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, camping, fishing, enjoying her six mini schnauzers and a great dane.
As the Admissions & Student Relations Coordinator at Pinnacle Institute of Cosmetology in North Carolina, Kathy’s career journey includes roles such as Cosmetology Instructor at Carolina Beauty Systems (1983-), Lead Educator at WSFCS Career Center(2000-), and Program Director at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (2010-), where she expanded the student body from 100 to 300 students and helped open new 15,000 sq. ft. Cosmetology, Nail, and Esthetics schools. Kathy also developed the curriculum for the Huskins High School Nail Technology program and introduced them to the SkillsUSA (formerly VICA) competitions, earning the NC and TN Advisor of the Year Award multiple times.
Her career has also included roles at Empire, Regency Beauty Schools, and Burmax Co.(2015-), where she served as the Mid-Atlantic School Representative, visiting over 500 schools across the region, organizing kits, and developing supplies. A cosmetology career that began in high school gave Kathy the opportunity to travel across the U.S., but she is proud to call North Carolina home. Throughout her career, Kathy has also managed several Salons and Spas in NC.
Kathy thrives on helping others succeed in the industry she loves, and her genuine passion for people and education makes her an invaluable asset to anyone she works with.
