About me

Hey y’all! I’m Katie.

I’m a blue sky dreamer, cat mom, and hair enthusiast.

There’s a difference from a calling in your life and a hobby. And sometimes you’ve always known what it is, but fear and life get in the way. I’ve finally embraced my calling. Hair makes me happy, it gets me excited, and I LOVE devouring new techniques and ideas! Having my hands busy and cutting has given me confidence I’ve never had before, and I only feel it growing!

My first day of class at Aveda a little kitten came into my life. Luna, in the 2 short months I’ve had her, has given me so much joy and fulfillment. Learning this sweet little kitty’s personality has facilitated a truly new outlook. Seeing someone discover newness everyday has inspired me to look at what I do more playfully and with a sense of childlike optimism.

Years ago I had a CTO who was pitching a new project. He asked everyone to give out ideas. We gave some pitfalls we could encounter and he stopped us and gave this advice. Our ideas and dreams should always be blue sky. If everything in the world was perfect, what would you want? What could we do? I want my own private space for clients. A single seat, very intimate and comfortable. I dream about catering to everyone. I’m not afraid of a challenge, be it curly cut or someone wanting to take the step to embrace outside, what they feel on the inside. My blue sky dream is being that stylist that you trust with not only your hair, but also your hopes and fears related to your hair. I know, in my blue sky dreams, even if it rains from time to time…. My skies will always return to shine bright again.

Why I'm here

When I was 15 and a Freshman in High School, I went on a tour of McKenzie Career Center in Indianapolis, IN. It was a trade school provided for students. When we went there I immediately was drawn to the salon. I wanted nothing more than to be one of

THOSE

girls, but between being in competitive marching band and some social stigmas voiced by my parents, I didn't do it. I spent the next 24 years waffling and making promises, saying I’d go to Cosmetology school next time I was fired or quit, but I continued to climb the corporate ladder trying to fit into a shape I thought was necessary for happiness.

SPOILER ALERT

It wasn’t.

In February 2024 I finally got tired of my work in finance, my physical and mental health were declining rapidly, and I was holding on to the proverbial end of my rope. I spent 3 weeks on vacation, watching the reality of my unhappiness unfold in front of me. I saw an ad for cosmetology school and thought WHY THE HELL NOT?

The road hasn’t been smooth. Starting with Paul Mitchell and having to leave due to being unable to work with full time hours. In 4 months I had arranged coming back to school at the Aveda Institute and came back in October.

A little over 300 hours into my program and all I’ve gotten is more and more confirmation that, this is my destiny. I have never had so much confidence and joy in what I do.
