Kayonie Coleman

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my profile! My name is Kayonie, but many know me as KC or Ms.Kay. I am a dedicated mother of three, born and raised in Oakland, CA, now residing in Sacramento. I am open to relocation to further my career in the beauty industry.

My passion for hair began at an early age, inspired by my grandmother, affectionately known as the "Marcel Queen". At just 14 years old, I taught myself to braid by practicing on my own hair. By 16, I was already offering professional services, including braiding, full sew-in installs, closure units, and leave-out weaves.

After graduating high school in 2009, I knew without a doubt that I wanted to become a hairstylist. I pursued my education at Marinello School of Beauty. However, five months before my graduation, I experienced the devastating loss of my grandmother. With her passing, I felt as though my passion for hair had faded.

For years, I worked various jobs, always feeling as though something was missing. It wasn't until I became a mother that I felt my passion reignite but this time, my love for hair carried a deeper purpose. In March 2022, I enrolled at Federico Beauty Institute, where I graduated in November of the same year.

After graduating, I was blessed with the opportunity to become an instructor, allowing me to share my expertise with future professionals. I developed and led my own texture class, educating students on all aspects of textured hair. My goal is to ensure that when my students leave Federico, they feel confident and well-equipped to work with all hair types never having to turn a client away due to a lack of knowledge.

This industry is ever-evolving, and I am committed to continued learning while inspiring and educating others. One of my career aspirations is to become an educator for a leading textured hair brand, such as Mizani. I am passionate about serving, teaching, and uplifting others, using my skills to empower the next generation of hairstylists.

I believe that hair is more than just an art it's a way to connect, transform, and uplift. I am excited to bring my expertise, passion, and leadership to a salon, beauty brand, or educational institution that values growth, inclusivity, and excellence in hair care.
