Keona Taborn

I am a proud wife and mother of three teenage boys. Managing a household full of males has been both a challenge and a testament to my strength and resilience. I became a mother as a teenager, and after marrying my high school sweetheart, we continued to grow our family. For years, my life revolved around supporting my children and husband—whether through PTA meetings or proactive marriage counseling sessions. While fulfilling, I often put my own needs on the back burner, prioritizing my family above all else.

About two years ago, I found myself struggling with depression from not prioritizing myself. Seeking a change, I ventured into the corporate world, which sparked a question:What is my true calling?

As I reflected, I realized that my passion has always been comforting, nurturing, and helping others feel better about themselves. One area where this passion shined was hair. Although I’d always enjoyed it, I never considered pursuing cosmetology seriously because I thought I lacked the resources. That changed when I connected with the knowledgeable and reassuring staff at Aveda Institute. They provided me with everything I needed to take this dream seriously.

I wanted to continue helping others but in a new way—through cosmetology. After much prayer and heartfelt discussions with my husband and family, I enrolled in Aveda Institute of Chapel Hill, NC. From the moment I began, I unlocked a newfound confidence. I now approach every theory lesson, every hairstyle, and every challenge with an open mind and determination to master techniques for all hair textures.

I am excited to share that I will be graduating in September 2025. You’re looking at a future Master Cosmetologist—ready to make a difference one client at a time!
