About me

Professional Artist ENFP/Revolutionary

First off- THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE! Obviously, I'm Marissa. I am a graduate of the Aveda Institute of Minneapolis looking for my forever salon. Enrolling in that program was the best decision I ever made in life. I've always been such a creative individual, but never thought I would have a career being a creative. So I'm have so much gratitude for being given this opportunity to have a future doing something I love.

I go through life making personal connections anyway I can. Which is another reason why this industry is perfect for me. We are in an industry where we need people who are personable, intuitive, caring, humble, creative, and tenaciously bold. I believe I am all of those plus more.

My absolute favorite thing in this industry is editorial fashion work. Hair, makeup, costume design, anything. This is the specific industry niche I feel I would thrive in best. But I will always want to work in a salon that thrives on continued education and tries to constantly evolve me to be the best artist I was made to be.

Besides being a lover of editorial work, my other favorites include- advanced color projects that require an understanding of color placement, color formulations, braiding, and extensions. I guess you could say I love everything that involves being a cosmetologist!

No matter what- I'm always trying to learn new things. During my off time, you will find me on Youtube watching color placement videos, cutting techniques, and fashion shows. Outside of work, I'm very laid back. I enjoy video games, walks in nature with my dog, painting, cooking, and reading. I may be a little quirky, but truthfully thats what makes me a very unique individual and someone who I believe is irreplaceble in our industry.

Since graduation;

I have worked in only one salon. HairPolice in Minneapolis. Loyalty means everything to me. There I was given lots of freedom to choose my own services, make my own days and hours. Even though I know many salons aren't like that, I feel the freedom allowed me to grow even more into my own unique stylist. There I learned how to braid, like festival braids. Dreadloc extension creation and installation for a customizable unique hair service. Dreadlocs extensions where made with human hair, braiding hair, or synthetic hair. Sewn in hand tied weft extensions. Pinch braids, and many more specialized services.

Why I'm here

I'm here for the same reason as everyone else; to share my work with the world and find that place I belong.

Although I love clients and will always work in the salon, my passion lies with editorial work and fashion projects.

March 2022

Aveda Institute of Minneapolis

I worked as lead stylist and costume creator for Aveda Catwalk for Water. I was given the honor of doing the closing act/grand finale "Bride in Black" for being the very first individual to sign up. With no financial resources, the help of one assistant, using materials I already owned, and one day of practice with hair- I managed to put together a look that was so beautiful I watched the judges bang on their table, and recieved many individual donations for her costume.
