Monica Carruthers

I am Monica Queen. I was sitting in the salon after a long day of watching my mom do hair, client after client. My mom stepped away from her station and I ran to the mirror to mimic what I had just seen her do. I achieved it on the first try. It seemed so natural. The interest was sparked on that day. I was 13 years old and decided that day that I would be a hairstylist just like my mom. 3 years later I was enrolled in a cosmetology program. It’s been 26 years and I’m still in love with the beauty industry. My career continues to evolve and I’m excited about new opportunities. I’m a licensed cosmetology instructor and a salon owner. My salon is staffed by my former students. It’s a joy to still teach while working. Some of my additional titles include, lead stylist, platform artist, editorial artist, product developer, and beauty industry consultant. I describe my relationship with hair as a thriving love that continues to explore new ways to keep the love alive. I’m excited and optimistic about new opportunities and new experiences.
