My name is Nicole Calhoun. I am originally from Greenville, SC, but I currently reside in Roanoke, VA. I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Roanoke September of 2019. I was a Dean’s List Graduate; receiving honors in Texture, Color, and the Cutting specialties. I also served as the Phase II Manager. I was a night student, as I worked full time during the day as a Business Intelligence Developer for one of our local healthcare systems. I have worked in IT for the past 17 years. I have my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Information Management Systems. Prior to enrolling at PMTS, I also worked as an Adjunct Instructor at two local colleges teaching courses in computer technology. I have always loved to teach, and I have also served in various training roles throughout my IT career. Since I was a child, I have been fascinated with the art of styling hair, but I decided to take my fathers advice and pursue a career in technology. I am thankful for the knowledge, experience, skill set, as well as the level of professionalism that I have obtained working in corporate America over the years, but I am ready to work in my passion! So, I jumped out of my comfort zone a couple of years ago and decided to enroll in cosmetology school. I’m so glad that I did!As graduation was approaching, I still had not found a salon home, so I decided to take another leap of faith and get my own salon suite. I had a few regular clients that I knew would follow me, but I was also up for the challenge of marketing myself and gaining the clientele that I needed to sustain my business. Thus, Coils By Cole was launched October 2019. To date, I am still working full-time in IT and I service my clients in the evenings and on the weekends. My salon focuses on natural hair care services. Most of my clients are women ages 30 - 60, primarily of which need assistance with styling/maintaining their natural hair as well as gray coverage coloring services. My goal is to find, or create an opportunity that allows me to work in the beauty industry full time! Meanwhile, I’ll keep educating myself, and studying/practicing my craft so that I will be prepared for that opportunity when it comes along.I pray that this is it!
