I decided to become a cosmetologist because of something very personal. In 6th grade I was diagnosed with the chronic auto-immune disorder "Psoriasis". Though this doesn't seem like a very big bump in the road, it became one. My psoriasis just so happened to be in my scalp more than anywhere. My skin would become raised and inflamed, often times it would crack open and bleed, not to mention how bad it itched. Not only was the physical pain unbearable, so was the mental. I hid my condition from everyone, I wouldn't even get my hair done in fear I would be judged. Luckily, my mom reached out to my hairdresser Sarah and told her the situation, my hair dresser got my mom to bring me in and get my hair done. Sarah proceeded to make me feel so beautiful through her kind words and services rendered. I knew then that I wanted to make other people feel the same way she made me feel, empowered. From that point on I knew that I was going to go into cosmetology and make sure no other 13 year old girl feels too ashamed and unworthy to feel beautiful. I knew I needed go into the field where the main goal in to make people feel confident. I knew I needed to be a cosmetologist.
