Why I'm here
I chose to pursue a career in cosmetology for a few reasons. Growing up, I was bullied a lot for the way I looked. I've always been a "weirdo". I've never really been one to follow trends, and I've always just sort of stood apart from other people; in fashion, in appearance, in interests & passions. I have severe ADHD so I was picked on for being "loud" and always being on the go. Because of the ridicule throughout my adolescence, I found myself feeling pretty insecure, both internally and externally. I have always known I'm built to do something great, and for whatever reason, the beauty industry called to me. I've been a self-taught makeup enthusiast for about 12 years, and I figured I might as well make a name for myself doing something I'm passionate about, and something I'm really good at. I've learned that as time goes on, helping other people love themselves not only through their outward appearance with hair, but their inward qualities through the confidence their look gives them, helps me love myself, too. Being able to empower others in such a way gives me power in myself. Helping other people feel beautiful helps me feel beautiful too, and I think that's really important. Another reason I got into cosmetology is my step-mom, Nicole Bellows (@hairchameleon on Instagram). She's been a hair stylist in the Los Angeles area for 20 years now, and she's always been adamant that this was my calling. She's been one of my biggest supporters and motivators in this journey and I couldn't be more thankful. Lastly, this industry gives me the opportunity to fully express myself, and create artwork unique to my style. Cosmetology gives me the power to be in charge of my own routine, and build a life that I am proud of in an industry I'm passionate about. I have aspirations to not only become successful in the salon, but to open my own shop, become a traveling guest artist, educator and motivational speaker for the beauty community.
