Your identity is your most valuable possession

Having spent my whole life in Florida, I grew up in beautiful, bustling cities with scenic beachfronts surrounded by artists. My own family is littered with graphic designers, musicians, and bakers. Because of this, I've always had a deep-rooted appreciation for the arts and a few more creative juices than the average person.
With that being said, it was no surprise to my mother when I wanted to explore my own artistic capabilities. My weapon of choice? Makeup! I vividly remember her taking 10-year-old me to get my first eyeshadow palette at Ulta. I was up incredibly late that night, devouring as many YouTube tutorials as possible as though they were going out of style. I had never been so excited before.
I have struggled tremendously with my appearance my entire life. Having been ruthlessly criticized throughout over half my school career, it became a defining aspect of my character and heavily influenced the way I thought about myself. Makeup was my first release. It gave me a breath of fresh air and taught me how to appreciate myself for the first time. Through that, I learned the importance of skincare. These avenues gave me an opportunity to invest in myself and feel valuable, something I thought I'd never experience.
Not long after, I met my stylist. She taught me so much about cosmetology and self-confidence. My relationship with her helped me commit to the idea of pursuing a career in cosmetology and motivated me to continue to learn and grow in my passion.
I carried my love of cosmetology with me throughout high school and learned to share it with other people. Naturally, I joined my school's band program and did competitive Color Guard all four years. I cherish the memories I have of doing my team's makeup and hair before games and competitions. I became known as the cosmetology guru and was constantly teaching people everything I knew about makeup and skincare. I couldn't wait to begin cosmetology school.
I couldn't be more excited to make my dream come true and become a licensed cosmetologist, and I have made a promise to myself to always be learning and improving. I want to be able to provide my guests with an exceptional experience by creating strong connections and sharing as much information as I can in order to help them care for themselves. I'm going to change people's lives the same way my stylist changed mine.

I made a promise to myself to change people's lives the way my stylist changed mine. I recognize that in order to do that and excel in this career, I need to take every opportunity available to me to invest in my education. I know this will give me the tools I need to fulfill my promise and give my clients the best possible experiences.
