I'm Sica Dawn, a self-professed HAIR NERD! Doing hair is not only how I connect with the world, but it's the only hobby I've ever enjoyed in my life, so to make a career out of it is an absolute dream! From waking up my parents to showcase my excellent barret placement on my little brother with midnight fashion shows as a kid, to booking all of my friends appointments with me in my mom's kitchen for all of our school dances, the magical blend of art and making people feel good is what makes my heart sing.Growing up art was fun, but math and science were the only practical avenues to pursue, as far as my family was concerned. I left high school in my junior year to go to college, and after a few years realized that the path I was on was not for me. I wanted to find a way to help the world and make peoples' lives better, and my, at the time, "hobby", cutting and coloring hair, seemed like a natural choice. I launched into my cosmetology career with an exuberance that can only be described as reckless. I attended a Paul Mitchell focus school, assisting artists, working on events, and getting as much outside education as I could manage while balancing full-time work and full-time school. Just over a year after graduating hair school I was opening my own modest 5 chair salon in an artistic area of town. Over the next decade I grew the salon into a community resource, multi-location company with dozens of employees, got a Bachelors Degree in Business, obtained training to become a Paul Mitchell Educator, traveled nationally and internationally to work as a featured hairstylist and lead hairstylist for fashion weeks from Vancouver to NYFW to LAFW to Paris Fashion week and producing shows for my own local Fashion Week Minnesota, and travelling nationally as an educator, brand developer, and trainer for the Italian-based Big Pro Color.Doing hair is not just a major part of my life, it is the central focus of everything I have done since I was 19 years old and took the leap to become a professional hairstylist. At the heart of everything I do, even above my own passion for the art that is possible, is my passion for making people feel as good as they deserve by letting their outsides shine as much as their insides do. When I get to connect with professional stylists and share advanced skills and product knowledge with them, I get to feel that joy two-fold, because I know that my positive energy won't stop with then, it will only grow and be shared further. As stylists, we can only see so many people in our own chairs each day, week, and year, but if we can share that love, inspiration, and know-how with other stylists, we can help countless people feel special, and feel seen.
