About me

Tamar Slaughter is an internationally accomplished hair stylist. At nine years old she was doing her own hair.  By her teens she was the go-to stylist for her friends and family, and by her late 20’s she knew that her destiny was to combine her love of fashion with styling hair on set, behind the scenes in TV, film and print.

Raised in a family with three South Philly fashionistas, Tamar has vivid memories of watching her Grandmother, Godmother and Mom get dressed, knowing that her turn would soon come. As a teen Tamar would cut, color and style her own hair when she wanted to express her sense of style beyond what the family budget allowed.

“I knew I was a creator,” says Tamar, “and bringing beauty to life through hair for myself and others made me feel beautiful and I wanted to be a part of that full time.”

On her first production gig, Tamar saw how hair could crown an entire look, create or change a vibe, tell a story and define the personality of a character.”

Tamar has provided support for "Black Women In Beauty" cover-shoot for Essence.com. (2020) , Deva Curl, Crème of Nature and most recently Marie Claire Latina cover shoot (2023). Other accomplishments include key hairstylist for Fujifilm and A Journey Home Film – Defender, lead hairstylist for the grand opening of The Fountaine Bleau Las Vegas, International hairstylist for The Jordana David Beauty Collective/Elan Artists Production Company, NYFW hairstylist, and Philadelphia Fashion Week hairstylist.

In addition to working as a set stylist, Tamar is an educator, with Product Club. She also served as an educator with Pureology and Mizani for several years.  She Graduated at the top of her class at Dudley Cosmetology University, in Kernersville NC,  and obtained her Cosmetologist Instructor's certification from the Berean Institute.

Tamar seeks to utilize the combination of her craftsmanship, and understanding of teamwork to add value to her impact as a leader in the beauty industry.

Why I'm here

I have had the pleasure of working under Teresa Lopez as a brand educator for Pureology. In that time I observed how her attention to detail in every aspect of management curated a team where everyone had the opportunity to shine while operating in their greatness. This element alone is key to any successful venture. The opportunity of direct mentorship from Mrs. Lopez is priceless. I would be beyond honored for the opportunity to add the tools she could share into my arsenal as I seek opportunities to grow as a leader in my career.
