About me

I’m the founder of The Big House, A Rags No Riches sanctuary (@thebighouse_rnr), a Black American Cultural House centered on beauty, community, and heritage. In life, you either build or destroy — so I ask myself constantly: how can I build, add value, heal others, instead of take and destroy?

That question led me to cosmetology school, where I’m working toward my license to bring that craft into the brand I’ve spent years creating. My purpose is to leave this space better than I found it.

Built from the root. Made to last. From nothing. For Us. Forever.

Why I'm here

I didn't choose cosmetology. It chose me.

I grew up watching Black women walk into the salon carrying the weight of the world, and walk out lighter. That is not an exaggeration. For our community, the salon was never just about hair. It was a sanctuary, a safe space, the one place we were fully accepted and fully free. Our stylists were root workers and healers. They understood that caring for a Black woman's crown was a privilege, and they treated it like one.

Over time, I watched that change. The connection between stylist and client eroded. Prices climbed past what everyday women could afford. And the women who needed care most, single mothers, young girls, women just starting out our elders, were quietly being left behind.

I couldn't ignore it. So I stopped complaining and started doing.

I taught myself. Silk presses, sew-ins, wig making, braids. I became the person my family and community needed. And then I asked God: if restoring this tradition is my purpose, make the path clear.

The path opened.

I am here not out of need, but out of want. A want to fix what has been broken. A want to care for Black women at prices that reflect their reality, heal them, and send them back into the world to keep doing what they do best.

I am not just studying cosmetology. I am reclaiming a tradition, restoring a community, and answering a call I can no longer ignore.
