Making healthy choices for myself and my future.
As a child I would look in amazement at the confident models on the billboards. I knew that would be me at one point in my life. I knew that I could not only be confident, but make a difference in the process. I would close my eyes and visualize me walking New York fashion week or being in an Estee Lauder beauty campaign. During my grade school years, I would get teased and picked on for having dark skin and large facial features. I guess I didn't fit the current ideals of beauty. It took a toll on my self confidence heavily. I didn't look in the mirror and see the beautiful being that I am. It felt weird to say the least and I wasn't happy with it. In high school, I began doing the inner work to feel more confident about myself. The external was just the second part of it. Seeing and appreciating more than just my external self, when it came to the love I felt for myself. At 16 years old, I began working with a Team of women at Tained Inc Makeup studio. Watching the barefaced women ask the head makeup about better skin care tips and makeup application recommendations. Watching women in both faces and still be beautiful. I did everything I could to be a full time intern, I wanted to continue to learn, observe and work as a team. It developed my creative energy, I would write poetry, take makeup clients, partake in beauty events, connect with other women that have similar narratives to me, singing and I was able to fulfill my modeling aspirations. I walked in my first fashion show. It was exhilarating, it was empowering and I was aunthetically growing into myself. After high school I went to college for Fashion Merchandising in Boston, MA, when picking schools and majors at the time it just felt right for me to do, but I wasn't satisfied. I didn't feel as if my purpose of helping others were being utilized on the scale that I wanted to be involved with. I changed my major to Social Work with a minor in public policy. I felt being a social worker was exactly where I wanted to be, and it would be my opening to being a service to people and ultimately empowering individuals to transform into better people. College was such a stressful process, but I also knew that more would come from it, so I continued to attend. During my 1st year of college, I also started to develop severe hormonal acne. It took a major toll on my self confidence again and my mental health. Around this time, I was also chasing my modeling dream, I knew that I could model through it. But overtime my skin just wouldn't get better, photographers would comment on it, people would stare. It was a hard thing to go through, my mental health declined rapidly. I was buying every product on every shelf and I was on every antibiotic that came with major side effects. My skin would start to clear then boom another breakout. It was devastating and I was over it. I decided to take a year break from modeling and start researching how to clear my skin. These beginning moments would change me forever. I then knew for certain, I was going to become an Esthetician. It was a shaky thought, but I knew within the next few years, I’d start when it was time. I was on youtube, pinterest, google, healthline.com, blogs anything that would bring relief to my skin. In 2018, I was introduced to Dr.Sebi and his practices, I listened to him speak about nature and the healing wonders of plants; internally and externally. Discovering I was suffering from Hormonal acne was the actual start. I learned that Gut health is directly related to skin, and stress is a no no if I wanted to achieve clear skin. I began drinking Burdock root tea, Red Clover, Sarsaparilla every morning. I threw away all the products that had chemicals and took a holistic approach at clearing my skin. I also utilized this approach to manage my stress levels and optimal wellbeing. So many transformations and realizations came from that its like I erupted from the bottom of a volcano. I started showing and teaching other women how to start their journeys to not only optimal wellness ,but clearing their hormonal acne in the process. It was inspiring, it was such a service to self and others, it felt good, it feels like now this is where I need to be. In 2020 I dropped out of college to seek a life that was for me. To make decisions that would make me happy in the long run while living in my purpose. 2020 was also the year that I got back into modeling. I was in a good head space at this point my skin was 90% clear and my mind had been feeling aligned and clearer. 2020 during covid I started to sample out different products and sell items as a sample sale items. People were in awe. They loved the products and raved about them on instagram. Again, I still felt like I was missing a piece. I was modeling and that part of me was booming. I was using my platform to inspire. 2021, I started to develop Soul Wellness Co and got my LLC. My career goals are to become a Holistic Skincare Specialist, Owner of Soul Wellness Co and THE SKEN, Health and Wellness coach and one day have a store front like the Aveda Skincare store, in Soho NY, Dallas, Hartford,CT & Downtown Buckhead,ATL. Theres no beauty like wellness and self love. My goals is to inspire women to not only be themselves but feel it and believe in their dreams and aspirations, don't do it for the next person but for self!
